Q: When was the Lycian Tradition of Wicca established, and by whom?

A: It was established in 1989 by Boniface. He went through a series of astral initiations over a period of years, culminating in finally being initiated and accepted by the "Wolf Clans" in 1985. He formally initiated "Rashal" into the tradition and started the first Lycian coven, "Wolfsong," in 1989.

Q: Is the Tradition based on the pre-Christian beliefs of Lycia, in Turkey?

A: No, it does not come from that region. Our Tradition is NOT a reconstruction of Turkish beliefs, but based on the Wolf Clans of western Europe.

Q: What does "Lycian" mean?

A: Lycian means "wolfish." "Lyc-" comes from the Greek language for "wolf" and "-ian" is the standard English ending meaning "of" or "pertaining to."

NOTE: There is a current trend that associates Lycian Wicca with lycans/otherkin. This is incorrect. Here is a full explanation of the differences.

Q: Do you follow the Wiccan Rede?

A: Yes. The Tradition has added, "an it cause harm, do as you must."

Q: What does "High" priest/ess mean in your Trad?

A: The title of "High" within the Lycian Tradition means that the individual has not only gone through the three Degrees and been ordained, but has taken someone else to that same level.

Q: Is initiation required to practice Lycian Wicca?

A: No, initiation is not required to practice. The Lycian Book of Shadows is publicly available. However, initiation IS required to become clergy. For the record, initiation into the Third Degree does NOT convey clergy status. That is separate and above completing the Degree requirements.

Q: Do you claim Gardnerian lineage?

A: No, we do not claim lineage from Gardner or BTW. We have our own initiatory lineage, which is recorded and verifiable through the Lycian Sanctuary. NOTE: We are listed as English Craft on the Beaufort House Index of English Traditional Witchcraft. This is incorrect. We have asked several times to be removed from the list. So far, they've ignored our request.

Q: Is your wolfish Tradition based on Otherkin?

A: No, it is not based on the concept of Otherkin. Though individuals may hold this view for themselves, the Lycian Tradition does not teach that we are other than fully human, both physically and our soul.

Q: Do you believe in shapeshifting?

A: We teach the concept of ASTRAL transformation of an individual into the form of a wolf. We do NOT teach that it can be done in the physical realm. The Lycian Tradition adheres to natural law, that being the laws of physics.

Q: Does Lycian Wicca adhere to vows of secrecy?

A: Yes, in these areas:

The initiation rituals.
The means of recognizing another member of the Tradition according to level of initiation.
The identities of other members in the Tradition; unless permission has been granted to reveal such, by the person being identified.

Q: What traditions / practices are unique to Lycian Wicca?

A: We vary from other Traditions in these areas:

The mythology of our Wheel of the Year
The "Four Kingdoms of Deity"
Our Third Degree, which is based on the Wild Hunt rather than the Great Rite
